My work speaks of the finite and the infinite.
- Ernesto Neto
Ernest Neto is a conceptual artist renowned for the sensory experiences that his installations provide – The Edges of the World is one of his most famous shows and offers the viewer the chance to see, feel and smell his work. Neto’s work has been described as a subtle combination of Biomorphism and minimalist sculpture, and his fascination with the human experience and the way we interact with our surroundings has been the biggest catalyst for his exploration of sensory perception; he has previously stated: “For me, mind and body are one thing, always together.” His work highlights the importance of artistic evolution in the sense that it is interactive for viewers, but it also provides inspiration for burgeoning artists who may want to explore the links between the numerous cultural and philosophical differences that surround humanity.

What is conceptual art?

Sometimes referred to as Conceptualism, this is an art form where the idea(s) or concept(s) behind the work take precedence over material concerns and traditional aesthetics. Many conceptual artworks can be created by anyone simply by following written instructions. The concept or idea is the most essential aspect of the artwork.
