Frank Nitsche

Frank Nitsche (Germany, 1964) is a contemporary painter known for his geometric abstractions. His works feature overlapping layers, intersecting lines, and specific forms reminiscent of construction plans, technical models, and computer programs. Nitsche draws inspiration from a vast visual archive of media, pop, and consumer culture, which he arranges and condenses into his unique pictorial idiom.

Nek-31 is one of his most notable works that perfectly exemplifies the complexity of his art: upon first glance, the work appears to be a mechanical-looking structure, crafted purely on angle and shape, almost as though it has been built on a computer - but when inspected closer, the viewer can see that certain patches of the canvas have been amended, edited as he has worked, sanded down to create sporadic lines, and the oil-paint that he uses often gives the colour a softer, saturated look.
