John Armleder (b. 1948 Switzerland) is a versatile artist, critic, curator, and performance artist known for his diverse methods of artistic expression. A graduate of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Armleder's work often reflects themes of Suprematism and Minimalism. He is also recognized for incorporating Neo-Geometric Conceptualism into his pieces, which emphasize geometric qualities. His art frequently features bright, eye-catching colors arranged in abstract expressionist designs. Armleder works with various mediums, including paint and clay for his paintings and sculptures, but he also integrates everyday objects like tires and matchboxes, infusing them with new meaning. Notable examples include Apicomplexa (2013), where he used car tires as planters, and Sogno Infranto (2011), a glass installation. Armleder is closely associated with Fluxus, an international network of experimental artists, poets, and composers. He also founded Groupe Ecart, an independent publishing house in Geneva, further contributing to the art world through his multifaceted practice.
