Liam Gillick

Conceptual artist Liam Gillick is renowned for his multi-media installations and his work within the sphere of Relational Art. Highly driven by his exploration of social constructs, Gillick is notable for his use of materials that pertain to political, social and economic systems – Plexiglass and aluminium have been used by Gillick, both as a nod to minimalism and as an example of the materials used in corporate signage and riot shields; As You Approach The Edge Of Town The Lights Are No Softer Than They Were In The Centre is perhaps one of his most notable installations of this kind. Alongside artists such as Angela Bulloch and Damien Hirst, Gillick was a member of the Young British Artists movement; his work has spanned across sculpture, installation, writing and graphic design – such was his success, Gillick was asked to commission a number of works for the Home Office building, a department of the United Kingdom government. (Artist website)
