Happening

What is Happening?

A Happening is a term used to describe artistic and theatrical events held by artists in the 1950s and 60s. These events were typically staged in gallery installations or planned environments and often involved audience participation, along with elements like lighting, sounds, and slide projections. Happenings were a precursor to performance art, which later included the active participation of the artists themselves.

Mobile

A mobile is a type of kinetic sculpture consisting of an ensemble of balanced parts that hang freely and move independently or as a whole when influenced by air currents or touch. Typically made of wire and colorful metal shapes, mobiles are designed to create dynamic visual effects through their motion.

Pigment

A pigment is a material that changes the color of light by selectively absorbing certain wavelengths and reflecting others. Unlike phosphorescence or fluorescence, where materials emit light, pigments work by altering the light that passes through or is reflected from them. In art, pigments are chosen for their special properties, such as high tinting strength, making them ideal for coloring various materials.

Grupo Frente

Grupo Frente was a movement founded in 1954 in Brazil by teaching artist Ivan Serpa. The movement included many students from the Rio de Janeiro Museum of Modern Art and sought to reject the nationalism and figuration present in the modernist forms of Brazilian painting. Grupo Frente emphasized experimentation and abstraction, aiming to explore new artistic possibilities beyond traditional constraints.
