Forg, Gunther | Mr Brown, 2002 — available on Composition Gallery
Tempera on copper on panel. 40.3 x 29.5 x 2.3 cm. Signed and numbered on edition label verso. Numbered - The edition was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Günther Förg. To the builders"
Mr. Brown by Günther Förg, created in 2002, is a mixed media work that combines tempera on copper, set against a dark brown panel. The composition showcases two elongated, organic shapes in a warm, copper tone, creating a striking contrast with the rich, deep brown background. The metallic sheen of the copper elements interacts with light, giving the forms a sense of dimensionality and subtle shifts in texture. Förg's minimalist approach emphasizes materiality and the interaction of light and shadow, inviting viewers to explore the tactile and visual properties of the composition. This piece exemplifies Förg’s signature exploration of abstraction and simplicity, using minimal elements to create depth and visual intrigue.

What is Neo-Geo?

What is Neo-Geo?

Known as Neo-Geo for short, this movement uses geometric objects and shapes to create abstract artwork as a metaphor for society. Inspired by various 20th-century art styles, including minimalism and pop art, Neo-Geo emerged in the 1980s as a response to the industrialization and commercialization of the modern world. The movement reflects on the impact of mass production, consumerism, and technology, often critiquing the superficiality of contemporary culture through its abstract, geometric compositions.
