Substractive Variability series 2 – print 5, 2022

A combination of movable type prints and avant garde modern design, characterise the unique methodology of graffiti artist Felipe Pantone. Geometry within the visual arts, points in the direction which he explores most enthusiastically. His sense of motion is confidently ultramodern, and his point of view both angular and kinetic. He probably created this new optical vocabulary by accident, by investigating the limits of digital text and representation, and how they impact social attitudes and frames of reference. Pantone has beautifully summarised his internal aesthetic methodology under the concept of 'Liquid Modernity'. He has rejuvenated the age old Greek philosopher Heraclitus's idea, that only change, remains unchangeable: 'There is nothing permanent, except change.' This notion goes hand in hand with the idea that uncertainty is the ultimate nature of reality, and that nothing is more certain than the fact that all outcomes from our decisions and actions, are forever uncertain, in the long run. This belief system has led Pantone over the years, to gradually abandon conventional representational forms, in favour of a more effectual production technique, which he coined, 'kinetic art'. Pantone was born in Buenos Aires in Argentina in 1986, but moved to Spain as a child. He essentially grew up ans studied art, in Valencia where he still resides. His recent work is crystallised in geometric models, which evoke the ever present designs of digital productions around us. Continuous activity, ceaseless circulation, provide the surge of energy which animates Pantone's work. He coherently expresses his acceptance of our technological future in his installations, with dazzling colours, synthetisers and ever present, intensely glaring, computer screens. (Artist website)
