Acid-etched metal plates, cut and assembled. Engraved artist signature and numbering.
Vhils’s Composed (2022) is a sculptural work made of acid-etched steel plates, cut and assembled into a fragmented yet cohesive composition. At its center, a human eye emerges from layered rectangular elements, surrounded by textures, patterns, and partial imagery that evoke urban surfaces. The use of industrial materials and erosion techniques reflects Vhils’s signature practice of revealing images through subtraction rather than addition. The fragmented structure suggests themes of perception, identity, and the construction of memory within contemporary city life. The interplay between abstraction and figuration invites the viewer to reconstruct the image mentally, emphasizing the act of seeing as both physical and interpretive.

What is Street art?

What is Street art?

Street Art is artwork created and executed in public spaces, outside of traditional art venues. It gained popularity during the 1980s graffiti art boom and has since evolved into various forms and styles. Common forms of Street Art include pop-up art, sticker art, stencil graffiti, and street installations or sculptures. Terms like guerrilla art, neo-graffiti, post-graffiti, and urban art are often used interchangeably to describe this genre, which challenges conventional ideas about where and how art should be displayed.
