Scully, Sean | Liliane 6, 2010 — available on Composition Gallery
Aquatint with sugarlift, spitbite and hard-ground etching. Somerset Textured White 300 gsm paper. Image dimensions: 61 × 46 cm. Sheet dimensions: 86 × 71 cm. Initialed, dated, and numbered in pencil.
Liliane 6 is among the most austere works in the series, pairing pale cream and yellow horizontal lines on a black field above with dark black vertical stripes on silver-grey below. The near-monochromatic palette distills Scully's visual language to its most essential elements, light and dark meeting at a charged boundary. Aquatint with sugarlift and hard-ground etching on Somerset paper lends the surface a velvety depth that photographs cannot fully convey. From an edition of 40, this 2010 diptych invites close, prolonged looking, rewarding the viewer with subtle tonal shifts and a meditative stillness.

What is Postminimalism?

What is Postminimalism?

Postminimalism refers to a range of art styles that emerged in the 1960s, following the Minimalism movement. While Minimalism focused on simplicity and impersonality, Postminimalist artists retained some elements of Minimalism but also explored greater expressiveness, experimenting with new materials and techniques. This movement includes various forms of art such as conceptual art, body art, performance art, process art, and site-specific works. Postminimalism represents a shift toward more personal, tactile, and process-oriented approaches to art-making.
