'Flower' by Yayoi Kusama is a collage measuring 35.5 × 27.5 cm, dated 1982 and hand-signed by the artist in pencil below the image. A single red tulip-like bloom rises on a green stem against a dense black field packed with interlocking white fragments — a compressed, agitated variant of the obsessive-repeat patterning that runs throughout Kusama's work across painting, sculpture, and installation. The petals and leaves carry their own internal networks of dots and veining, while a bright blue border ringed with white polka dots frames the composition. Kusama began incorporating polka dots as a defining motif from the late 1950s, rooted in her documented experiences of visual hallucination; here they appear both as border decoration and as texture within the flower itself. The work belongs to a numbered edition, produced during a period when Kusama was deepening her engagement with printmaking and multiples alongside her broader practice.
